St. Ignace Trails

Discover trails at the heart of Michigan’s wild Upper Peninsula

St. Ignace and Mackinac County form a natural gateway to the Upper Peninsula’s deep woods, limestone bluffs, inland lakes, and the shimmering shoreline of Lake Huron. Recognized as an official Pure Michigan Trail Town, St. Ignace offers a welcoming base with proven leadership in creating and promoting local trails, including the waterfront route through downtown and connections to Straits State Park and the Silver Mountain Hike & Bike Trail.

Here, the North Country National Scenic Trail begins—right at the St. Ignace Welcome Center, just north of the “Mighty Mac” Bridge. This marks the first of approximately 138 miles of the trail stretching across the Eastern U.P., winding under whispering pines, through wetlands, sand dunes, and along the Niagara Escarpment.
