St. Ignace Sand Dunes Trail

A hidden gem in Hiawatha National Forest just north of US‑2 near Moran, the St. Ignace Sand Dunes Trail offers a network of wooded dune paths blending sand, pine, and bluff-edge views—perfect for hikers, snowshoers, and outdoor lovers year‑round.


Trail Snapshot

The trail system includes several loops (A–G) ranging from easier to more challenging terrain. Beginners will enjoy loops A–D, while more experienced hikers and skiers may prefer loops E–G, which feature steeper dunes and sharper turns.


Trailhead & Access

  • Location: Off Brevort Lake Road (H‑57), 0.4 mi north of US‑2, west of St. Ignace

  • Parking: Free roadside pull-off

  • Facilities: Pit-style restrooms (seasonal), informational trailhead board.

  • Pets: Leashed dogs allowed year-round

  • Surface: Natural sand, forest floor, groomed ski tracks in winter

  • Season: Open year-round – hiking in spring to fall, skiing and snowshoeing in winter (some loops groomed weekly)
