Truckin’ to St. Ignace: A Semi-Legendary Tradition

Big Rigs Take Over Downtown St. Ignace

Did you know about that one weekend in September when decked-out semi-trucks totally take over the streets of downtown St. Ignace?

We’re talking about the Annual Richard Crane Memorial Truck Show Weekend in St. Ignace! It’s the fun event that rolls the entire season into high gear with over 200 custom rigs on full display; chrome shining brightly enough to guide those Mackinac Island Ferries safely back to shore.

Celebrating the Work That Keeps the Goods Rolling

Both working and non-working trucks gather in St. Ignace for the weekend. Some are daily drivers fresh from long hauls. Others are retired classics or custom-built masterpieces. The drivers and owners are here for the chance to show off their rigs, to connect with peers, and to be part of a tradition that recognizes the importance of the industry.

A Carnival of Horsepower

For participants, truck registration begins on Thursday and continues through Saturday at 6pm at the Mackinac County Airport. Then, beginning the first thing Friday afternoon, several downtown streets will close to vehicular traffic in order to make way for the truck display.

Visitors are invited to walk around, and you can’t help but notice the enthusiasm of owners who have invested many hours (sometimes even years!) into their machines. Trucks are parked throughout town both Friday and Saturday, giving you plenty of time to stroll around, snap photos, and admire every shiny detail at your own pace.

Festival Atmosphere in Downtown St. Ignace

Live music brings more fun, and Friday evening when the truck lights come on, don’t miss the memorable (and imminently walkable) light show. What’s more, many of the trucks are lined up perfectly with St. Ignace’s Social District, so you can gawk at the rigs all the while enjoying an adult beverage from a participating establishment.

Model Trucks on Display

Model Trucks

On Saturday, Little Bear East Arena & Community Center hosts a great family-friendly event that allows you to experience the trucking world, in miniature! The all-day miniature truck show features scale models that are a true delight to behold with intricate details like cool paint jobs, working lights, and realistic decals.

A Celebration of Community

Throughout the weekend, the event features truck-related merchandise, food vendors, and live music spots all over town. Exhibitors bring the latest in trucking technology and accessories, which is a great opportunity for both truckers and fans to see what’s new in the industry. And just for fun, limited competitions are held, with prizes awarded for categories such as “Best in Show”, “Best Lights”, and “Best Interior”.

A Parade of Lights

Then on Saturday evening, don’t miss the highlight of the weekend: the Parade of Lights. Here’s where trucks are adorned with lights, and the crowds gather along the route to watch and cheer as the rigs roll triumphantly across the Mackinac Bridge. And really, it’s pretty remarkable to see an everyday job become something celebrated.

A Legacy of Dedication

The Richard Crane Memorial Truck Show honors Richard “Dick” Crane, a lifelong trucker who cared deeply about his fellow drivers and their families. After his passing in 1996, his children, Rick and Fran, organized the show to keep his dream alive and to support trucking education and trucking families affected by cancer.

Today, the event has grown into one of the Midwest’s most popular trucking gatherings, with trucks of all sizes and styles packing the streets of downtown St. Ignace. Don’t miss the chance to experience the energy, craftsmanship, and community spirit that make the St. Ignace Truck Show truly semi-legendary.
