Calling all Jeeple! Hold onto your seats, because Jeep the Yoop is almost here! If you’ve been a fan of “Jeep the Mac” in previous years, you will love Jeep the Yoop! With an abundance of Jeep-related activities waiting to be had over two unforgettable days, this event promises to be an absolute blast!
There won’t be a bridge crossing in 2024 due to Mackinac Bridge construction, but the show will go on! St. Ignace and Drummond Island have teamed up to present an awesome journey into the Upper Peninsula with an itinerary that celebrates all things Jeep.This is a Jeep-only event!
Every year, this beloved gathering draws Jeep lovers (Jeeple) from all over the globe. They come to explore the rugged terrain, showcase customized vehicles, all while taking in the breathtaking landscapes of the Upper Peninsula. Drummond Island offers an exciting opportunity to experience off-roading, with miles of trails waiting for your arrival. Ferry tickets are included with the price of admission to the family -friendly event. With so many Jeeps sporting unique modifications, “Jeep the Yoop” promises to be an unforgettable experience for enthusiasts and spectators alike.
What makes Jeep the Yoop so special? We caught up with a passionate Jeep enthusiast from Saint Marie, Michigan who spoke with us about Jeep history and the fascinating culture that surrounds the legend. He described the bond among Jeep lovers and the inspiration derived from seeing others’ Jeep modifications:
“Like Harleys, they have a lot of different ideas; it’s the same with Jeeps. People have a lot of ideas about different things to do with Jeeps. You learn a lot from others at the event. And you know, say, ‘That’s a good idea or a bad idea. I’d like to do that.’ It’s pretty cool to see everybody’s ideas up here.”
His journey with Jeeps began in childhood, evolving from a ’79 Cherokee to a meticulously restored 1943 Willys. We learned about the origins of the iconic vehicle during the Second World War: “According to General Eisenhower, this is one of the three things that won World War 2. The other two were the Higgins boat and the LS landing craft. And since then, Jeeps have just improved.” He went on to tell us a little about that familiar Jeep grill: “They haven’t changed the grill. I just recently learned that the seven-slot grill represents the seven continents that the Jeep has been on. And when you think about it, that’s true. Jeeps are all over the world!”
Still Intrigued...
We chatted with a representative from the St. Ignace Visitors Bureau, who summed up the appeal of Jeep the Yoop: “It’s really fun! There’s a lot of activities, casino packages, and deals to enjoy while you’re in St. Ignace.” Her favorite part? “Going to Drummond Island for off-roading! There are after parties, awards, and all kinds of cool stuff. It’s a fun way to kick off the jeeping season and hang out with your friends up north in the UP.”
With a registration fee of just $45, you will unlock a world of excitement, including exclusive access to the Jeep Obstacle Course at the Kewadin Casino, food and drink vouchers for great food trucks, ferry fare to Drummond Island, and much more! The Grand-Stand event promises to be a good time, after all, where else can you witness tricked-out Jeeps tearing up the terrain, Lake Huron shining gloriously in the background? - Take the ferry to Drummond Island for a day of activities.
