And if animals fascinate anyone in your group, visit Garlyn Zoo, located just 40 miles west of St. Ignace, to see many amazing animals. Closer to town, the Deer Ranch is home to dozens of whitetail deer in a natural setting, perfect for photos and family fun.

Explore the rich history and culture at the Museum of Ojibwa Culture, a National Historic Landmark offering engaging exhibits on the 17th-century Huron Indian Village, Father Marquette’s French Jesuit Mission, and local Ojibwa traditions.

St. Ignace has an abundance of beautiful beaches to enjoy, especially for families. Straits State Park Beach, located off Church Street, just south of US Highway 2 in St. Ignace, invites you to sink your toes into soft sands, splash in crystal-clear waters, and marvel at the majestic Mackinac Bridge in the distance. A great introduction to the town, this spot is a well-loved sandcastle-building spot! So, bring your buckets and bring your dog (Straits State Park is a dog-friendly beach), and there is even a one-mile walking trail for a quick hike.

While you are here, make sure to go to the American Legion Memorial Park Beach at least once during your visit. It has a playground as well as a vast picnic area. With shallow swimming spots and beach volleyball, you can stay for the entire afternoon!

If the kids are up for a little drive, check out the sand dunes and white-sand beaches along US Highway 2 toward Brevort. Drive a little more to discover the most northerly point of Lake Michigan!

Kiwanis Park has plenty of picnic tables and a covered gazebo, so why not get a pizza to go, and dine along the shores of Lake Huron.

American Legion Memorial Park: The kids can really burn some energy at this convenient spot! With excellent playground equipment, beautiful picnic areas, and views of Lake Huron, this park has everything you need.

Wawatam Lighthouse Park: Situated near downtown along the Huron Boardwalk walking paths, the splash pad will take your family vacation to the next level. From a historic lighthouse to a lively splash pad, it’s the perfect spot for safe, family fun.

Near the lighthouse, an interactive sundial lets you use your shadow to tell time, and informative signs provide historical and ecological tidbits.

Continue along the boardwalk to explore a variety of shops and eateries that will appeal to young and old alike. Public bathrooms at the visitor center, and further along the road ensure a comfortable experience.
