DESCRIPTION:Annual Labor Day Mackinac Bridge Walk\nSeptember 7\, 2026\nEvery Labor Day morning\, the iconic Mackinac Bridge becomes a foot-path of celebration as thousands of participants gather at either the north end in St. Ignace or the south end in Mackinaw City to mark an enduring Michigan tradition.  \nThis unique event offers an unforgettable chance to walk across one of the most stunning landmarks in the state\, connecting the Upper and Lower Peninsulas above the shimmering waters of the Straits of Mackinac. \nNotice: info below from 2025 \nTime: Walk begins at 7:00 AM; last entry onto the bridge at 11:30 AMBridge Closure: Closed to public vehicle traffic from 6:30 AM to 12:00 PMCost: Free; no registration required \nParticipation Options\nHalfway Turnaround: Start from either St. Ignace or Mackinaw City\, walk to the midpoint\, and return to your starting point. \nOne-Way Crossing: Walk the entire bridge from one end to the other. No bus transportation is provided; participants must arrange their own return transportation after the bridge reopens at noon. \nRound Trip (Double Cross): Walk the bridge both ways for a 10-mile journey. To complete the round trip\, you must reach the midpoint on your return by 10:00 AM. \nParticipants who do not reach the midpoint by 10:00 AM will be turned back to ensure the bridge reopens to traffic on time. \n							\n													 \nStarting Points and Parking\n St. Ignace: The starting location has been moved to Bridge View Park\, located west of I-75\, for improved safety and convenience. \nMackinaw City: Participants can start from the south end of the bridge. \nWalkers will use the left-hand outside paved lane when starting from either side. Those turning back at the midpoint will return using the opposite side outside paved lane. \nRules and Safety Guidelines\nProhibited Items: Signs\, banners\, umbrellas\, bicycles\, roller skates\, skateboards\, wagons\, and similar devices are not allowed. \nAnimals: Only working service dogs are permitted. \nRestrooms: There are no restrooms on the bridge.
